Stat Block: New Caldera Infantry
The backbone of the New Caldera Defense Forces is the infantry. In addition to standing watch at the perimeter of New Caldera Valley, the infantry units are responsible for policing and protecting the fledgling city-state and are the first to respond when a Breach Creature is spotted in the Valley.
The infantry's primary purpose is defense of the city-state's perimeter and protection of the local populace. While individuals may vary, most members of the infantry are extremely xenophobic, reacting with a "shoot first, then burn the bodies" mentality when it comes to non-humans. This is the result of decades of random incursions by wandering creatures from the surrounding mountains.
Infantry patrols are broken down into 16-person platoons, broken down further into four-man teams. One platoon is always stationed at or around the marketplace. Each watchtower in the valley holds one platoon at any given time with 12-hour rotation. Two reserve platoons are always ready to reinforce any area of the city at a moment's notice in the event of an incursion, disturbance in the marketplace, or all-out assault by some hostile force or Breach Creature. Currently, New Caldera has 16 active infantry platoons, plus 48 reservists that can be ready for active duty in less than 24 hours.
Every platoon is issued standard equipment.
